Ludwig von Mises once wrote that (paraphrasing)"socilaism is just the first phase of communism".

Mises wrote of this in his book titled, Planned Chaos, which is available as a free PDF download at The Mises Institute.
It is an excellent read, Mises has shown us what will eventually happen if we the people don't keep a tight collar on government. Just like 1930's Germany, ahem...National Socialist.
